Turkey and Singapore Announce Start of Ramadan

Turkey and Singapore have announced that Thursday, February 19th, will mark the beginning of the month of Ramadan, based on their official astronomical calculations. According to the International Astronomy Center, Turkey's Presidency of Religious Affairs stated that calculations showed the impossibility of sighting the crescent moon on February 17th. Meanwhile, the Islamic Religious Council of Singapore confirmed that it could not be seen as the moon sets before the sun. Thus, both countries join Oman in determining Thursday, February 19th, as the first day of Ramadan.
