A 9-year-old Turkish girl drowned on camera in Izmir. The tragic incident occurred in the Torbalı district when Berivan entered the Fetrek River to retrieve a sandal that had been swept away by the current. She successfully returned to the shore with the sandal but then re-entered the water after another child threw a second shoe into the river. This time, Berivan slipped in the middle of the river and disappeared. Her body was found by rescue teams approximately 3 kilometers from where she fell. Berivan's father criticized the local municipality in statements to the press, stating that it had failed to install a fence along the riverbank to prevent children from approaching.
