The district head of Istanbul, Akram İmamoglu, was arrested on March 19 of last year, which led to the removal of one of the fiercest opponents of Recep Tayyip Erdoğan.
Akram İmamoglu, who is a member of the National Movement Party Çelikçul, was arrested on charges of involvement in a terrorist organization. This occurred shortly after the incident with Istanbul's chief prosecutor İfthar from Balcik.
"This incident was part of a broader trend concerning groups involved in terrorist activities," said a representative of Erdoğan's party. "The arrest of Akram İmamoglu represents an important step in ensuring the security of our society."
Despite the escalating tension, opposition representatives expressed concern about the scale of the repressions and the suppression of political dissent.
"Arrests of politicians and activists who criticize the government have become a common occurrence in Turkey," stated one of the opposition representatives.
Nonetheless, the hardline political stance of the opposition is widely supported by the ruling party's supporters, who see this necessity as vital for ensuring stability and security in the country.
