The General Director of Zorlu Holding, Cem Koksal, was detained by the Turkish police as part of an investigation related to an internal electronic mail of the company, in which he stated that 'the beginning of Ramadan is not included in the list of corporate holidays of the company.'

The investigation was initiated by the Istanbul Prosecutor's Office after images of electronic letters from general directors started to spread on social media. The prosecutor accused Koksal of prohibiting employees from 'expressing their freedom of religion and thought' during Ramadan.

Koksal emphasized in his statement that the group strives to 'preserve a secular orientation.' 'We aim to become a multinational company, and we expect to have employees of different nationalities and religions.'

Later, Koksal submitted his resignation from the post at Zorlu Holding, which is engaged in energy, electronics, and electrical devices.
