On Wednesday, there was an attack at the Turkish Aerospace Industries headquarters in Ankara, Turkey, resulting in deaths and injuries, according to local media. According to HaberTurk, the incident involved gunfire and an explosion, with possible indications of a suicide attack. Witnesses reported that an armed man entered the company’s building, where gunfire was heard and hostages were taken.
Interior Minister Ali Yerlikaya confirmed that it was a terrorist attack against the Turkish Aerospace and Space Industries Corporation (TUSAş). In videos shared online, the moment of the explosion and an armed individual opening fire can be seen. TUSAş is known for maintaining Turkey's military aircraft fleet and selling its own airborne systems.
An anonymous factory worker revealed that they were warned about a possible suicide attack and were instructed not to leave their posts. The confrontation between security forces and the attackers resulted in fatalities. So far, the authorship of the attack considered terrorist by authorities has not been confirmed.
In previous events, such as the attack in 2023, the Kurdistan Workers' Party claimed responsibility, while in another incident in 2022, a bomb attack in Istanbul resulted in fatalities and injuries. In this new episode, the Turkish government linked the PKK to the attack at the Turkish Aerospace Industries headquarters.
Interior Minister Ali Yerlikaya expressed his condolences for the losses and wished for a speedy recovery to the injured while firmly condemning the violence. The armed confrontation at the aerospace weapons factory in Ankara remains under investigation.
