The Turkish Football Federation has decided to punish the coach of the Fenerbahçe team, Jorge Jesus, with a four-match suspension, in addition to a financial penalty due to his statements regarding the refereeing in Turkey after the match against Galatasaray in the local league.
After the end of the Galatasaray match with the negative interaction, Jorge Jesus stirred controversy with his statements in which he claimed that the players of the opposing team jumped over the substitution seats "like frogs" in protest against the refereeing decisions. These statements made by the Portuguese coach sparked the Turkish Football Federation's discontent.
According to the federation, a financial penalty of $44,000 was imposed on Jorge Jesus due to "humiliating and offensive statements about Turkish refereeing" and accusations of undermining football in the country. He also faced accusations of inciting chaos within the stadiums.
The match that witnessed the incident was Salafkoy's referee Silvinyi Selafko after all competitors requested to appoint a foreign referee. For its part, the management of the Fenerbahçe team issued a statement supporting Jorge Jesus, indicating that his statements were misquoted and taken out of their legal context.
