The grouping of Kurdish workers announced a ceasefire with Turkey in response to the call of their leader Abdullah Ocalan. This step opens the way for new international negotiations between the Kurdish working party and the Turkish government, marking the first such step since Erdogan referred to the existence of a 'historical opportunity.' On Thursday, Ocalan urged the party to disarm and self-dissolve, which may lead to the end of more than 40 years of conflict with Turkey.
"We follow the call of our imprisoned leader for world peace and announce the cessation of hostilities," the party reported. In response to this invitation, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan stated on Friday that this began a "new era."
It is important to note that this step represents a significant move towards resolving the conflict and creating peace between the Turkish government and the Kurdish grouping, demonstrating readiness to continue the ongoing negotiation process.
