Mesut Özil, a former German national player, was elected to the Central Council of the party, headed by the President of Turkey Recep Tayyip Erdoğan.
Mesut Özil, who moved to a Turkish club at the later stage of his career, was selected to the Central Council of the Republican People's Party of Turkey led by Recep Tayyip Erdoğan.
"I deeply respect the work of my president Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and the trust he has placed in me. I will do my best to use my knowledge and experience for the benefit of the German-Turkish and Muslim diaspora in Germany," Özil said.
