Living in a Cave: A Safe Haven After the Earthquake

A man from the southern province of Hatay in Turkey lost his home due to the earthquake that occurred on February 6 and destroyed everything on his way. He found a refuge in a small cave on the outskirts of his hometown and converted it into a cozy dwelling.

Ali Buzoglu, the father of three children, has been living in the cave for two years and considers this place safer than any narcissistic structure. He plans to install solar panels to provide electricity for his washing machine and refrigerator. Even if his plan doesn't work, he is determined to continue living in his stone refuge.

"Ali told TGRT Haber that his cave has existed for thousands of years and hasn’t collapsed. He declined an offer to relocate to his hometown Defne after his story became known and suggested a house made of wooden containers."

In February 2023, a 7.8-magnitude earthquake struck southern Turkey, claiming the lives of tens of thousands and reducing entire neighborhoods to rubble. Despite the fear and destruction, Ali managed to find his little cozy corner in the cave, where he feels comfort and peace in the embrace of nature.
