In Turkey, a 70-year-old woman has been accused of the murder of a 60-year-old male relative during a family dispute. The alleged individuals were summoned for deposition, although it was claimed that they settled the conflict and the relations between them were good, however a criminal case was initiated and the accusations against the 70-year-old grandmother were presented.
The indictment asserted that the utensil, with which the relative was struck, is considered a weapon, and that the 70-year-old woman acted in self-defense, hitting the elderly man with her phone. "When I started bleeding, I was scared and called for help," the grandmother recounted.
The women did not file complaints against each other, but informed the paramedics how the grandmother sustained the injury to her head, sending statements to the hospital, which later forwarded it to the local police.
Although the first instance court sentenced Kayatan to four years and two months in prison, in the end, the sentence was reduced to 4 years and 2 months, but the advocate Kayatan filed an appeal.
The incident began because the grandmother did not allow her granddaughter to go out late in the evening, and the grandmother locked the door. As a result, Kayatan struck the grandmother with the kitchen utensil, and in response, the grandmother struck the granddaughter with the phone.
